The Story of Rose...
Hi Friends!
I received an email a few days ago with this story about ROSE...I was so touched by it, so I wanted to pass it along.
I feel that this story somehow relates to how I am feeling about the center and what WE created as a community together.
For the past 17 years or so, it was a dream of mine to have a healing center, you helped me manifest my dream. I Thank you for that!!!!
This is a great story either way. I hope you enjoy it!
All my love, Heather

The Story of Rose
The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.
I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being..
She said, 'Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?'
I laughed and enthusiastically responded, 'Of course you may!' and she gave me a giant squeeze..
'Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?' I asked.
She jokingly replied, 'I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids...'
'No seriously,' I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.
'I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!' she told me.
After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this 'time machine' as she shared her wisdom and experience with me..
Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.
At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor.
Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, 'I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know.'
As we laughed she cleared her throat and began,
' We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing.
There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success.
You have to laugh and find humor every day.
You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.
We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it!
There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up.
If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight.
Anybody! Can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets.
The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do.
The only people who fear death are those with regrets..'
She concluded her speech by courageously singing 'The Rose.'
She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives.
At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those months ago.
One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.
Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.
When you finish reading this, please send this peaceful word of advice to your friends and family, they'll really enjoy it!
These words have been passed along in loving memory of ROSE.
REMEMBER, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY.
GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL.
We make a Living by what we get. We make a Life by what we give. (I love this one!! ~HH)
God promises a safe landing, not a calm passage.
If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.
Good friends are like stars..... .....You don't always see them, but you know they are always there.'
(This line goes out to all my friends who supported my dream, you know who you are, you are certianly one of my stars! ~HH)

Renaissance Healing Center Prepares to Close
After two years of providing a nurturing healing center for the Jacksonville Beach community, Renaissance Healing Center will close it's doors on July 30th. The decision was made by the partners who feel it is time to pursue new, individual interests.
Sherry Wolfson, Yoga Instructor at Renaissance wrote a little something about her experience being part of the center.
"I first entered the center as a yoga student. I immediately felt that I had entered a sacred space. The yoga studio was small, but cozy and nurturing. All the practitioners which included yoga teachers, massage therapists, an aesthetician and an acupuncturist were warm, friendly, and caring. I was fortunate to become part of the team when I began teaching yoga at the center. Having been hesitant to teach in the past, I will always remember Heather Hixon, part owner, telling me that teaching yoga wasn't about me. It was about opening my heart and sharing the gift of yoga with others. This is exactly what students and clients received at RHC - a gift to practice yoga, enjoy a massage or a facial, or acupuncture treatment in a warm, caring environment provided by compassionate practitioners who are “top notch” in their field..
We will all miss Renaissance Healing Center, but we will always cherish the gifts that we received."
- Sherry Wolfson
We, the Renaissance Healing Center "Family" would like to thank all of you for your kind words and support during this time of transition. We are grateful for every one of you!
~Namaste' (The Divine Light in me, honors and blesses the Divine Light in you)
Here is the contact information for the practitioners and instructors at Renaissance Healing Center so you may get in touch with them after July 30, 2010. All gift certificates should be honored by the individual practitioners so please call them if you have any questions.

Enjoy the Beautiful Energy of a Oneness Blessing
Oneness … Awaken to the Joy Within
Come join us to awaken the joy within through Oneness. The event will begin with an introduction to Oneness followed by a guided meditation with focus on breath work and chakras (energy centers) within the body. You will then receive the Oneness Blessing from multiple Blessing Givers. The Blessing is transferred as the Blessing Givers place their hands on your head for approximately 1-2 minutes. There will be time for integration after the experience.
What is Oneness Blessing/Deeksha?A Oneness Blessing is an act of energy transfer by touch or by the power of intent. It results in a growth in consciousness by creating a shift in the perception and experience of life. It is a non-denominational experience that awakens our connection with the oneness in everything, allowing each of us to deepen our relationship with those we love, with ourselves and with all that is.

Our May 2010 Teacher Spotlight is Sherry Wolfson!
Get to know our May 2010 Spotlight Teacher:
Sherry Wolfson!
I decided to become a yoga teacher to share the gifts that I had received. I traveled to Massachusetts where I received my Kripalu Yoga teaching certificate in 2005. In 2007 I relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where I took a teacher’s coaching class with Heather Hixon. I now enjoy teaching gentle yoga and sharing the gifts I have received with others.
My classes stress the connection of mind, body and spirit. We focus on a theme each month, such as compassion, awareness, balance, etc. Though my classes our gentle and appropriate for all levels they provide poses that will strengthen the body as well as enable it to become more flexible. I consider myself a “people person' and pride myself with offering classes that are relaxed, nurturing and geared to individual needs.
I am also a Soulcollage® facilitator. I am available to lead Soulcollage classes in the privacy of your home for groups of four or more. Renaissance Healing Center also offers spa packages which include Soulcollage®.
Try out a yoga class with Sherry:
Mondays at 10am- Gentle Yoga Stretch
Thursdays at 6pm- Intro to Yoga

Learn to Belly Dance with Veils on April 3rd from 3-5pm
What should I bring?
If you have any Bellydance "gear" i.e. a coin belt, hip scarf, or a veil, you are welcome to bring it. Also, if you prefer to dance in soft soled shoes rather than barefeet, please wear them but it is not required. Dancing with a veil is all about the arms, so please don't wear any restrictive tops, you will need full range of motion of your shoulders and arms. --a sports bra w/a tank top or tshirt is just fine. As for bottoms, yoga pants or a long flowing "gypsy" skirt is a good choice, because it will spin beautifully and compliment your veil :) It is a workout so be comfortable and be prepared to sweat a little. I am so looking forward to dancing with you all! Stick around after the workshop for a Performance and Birthday celebration! |

Soul Collage® at Renaissance
February 27th 3-5:30pm Soul Collage Workshop Themed: “Compassion”
Sherry Wolfson, trained Soul Collage® facilitator and Yoga instructor will host this fun, creative workshop at Renaissance Healing Center. Please come early for a gentle Yoga class that begins at 2p. In this workshop, you will select and cut images from magazines or photos and arrange them into cards to begin creating your personal deck. Each card represents an aspect of self and in this class we will be focusing on creating your Compassion card. Cost: $25 Please visit www.soulintuition.com for more info and RSVP to Sherry at (904) 220-2954
What is Soul Collage?
SoulCollage® is a process through which you contact your intuition and create an incredible deck of cards which have deep personal meaning and will help you with life's questions. the cards are arranged in four suits each representing an aspect of self. The primary purpose of the cards is self exploration and acceptance. This is a creative process which anyone can do. All you need are images you can cut from magazines, old calendars, photos etc. You choose the images that speak to you, then move fragments of cut outs around, fitting them together in a surprising way and gluing them down on cards. It is wonderful to have other people with whom to share the process. You can take your cards to a friend's house, to a therapy session or support group, to a spiritual community or to work with in your family.
